Alternative Hotels in Bristol

A note for non-Bristolians… there is a bit of Bristol called 'The Centre'. Confusingly, this is NOT the main city centre shopping area, which is instead called Broadmead/Cabot Circus. (Though The Centre does have lots of clubs, bars and theatres, and is the main place for 20 somethings to get drunk on a Saturday night). We've tried to indicate on the hotel list below which of the hotels are in the Centre and which are more near the traditional 'city centre' shops.

Redcliffe Way, Bristol, BS1 6NJ, Tel. 0117 926 0041

This is the Bristolcon venue.

Holiday Inn Express, Bristol City Centre

South End, Temple Gate House, Bristol, BS1 6PL, Tel. 0117 930 4800

This isn’t anywhere near the city centre, it is in fact right by Bristol Temple Meads station, and a couple of minutes walk from the Bristolcon venue (the Hilton Doubletree).

Novotel Bristol Centre

Victoria Street, Bristol, BS1 6HY, Tel. 0117 976 9988

Nowhere near either The Centre or the shops, but about 5 mins walk from both the Bristolcon venue (the Hilton Doubletree) and Bristol Temple Meads.

Hilton Garden Inn Bristol City Centre

Temple Way, Bristol, BS1 6BF, Tel. 0117 925 1001

Another hotel that labels itself Bristol City Centre but is really closer to Bristol Temple Meads station. It is less than 10 mins walk from the Bristolcon venue.

Mercure Holland House Hotel & SpaRedcliffe Hill, BS1 6SQ, Tel. 0117 319 9004

The first Bristolcon was held here, for those of you who were at that. It is just round the corner from the current venue – 5 mins walk or less.

Mercure Bristol Brigstow

Welsh Back 5-7, Bristol, BS1 4SP, Tel. 0117 929 1030

Midway between Bristolcon and the city centre shops. About 10-12 minutes walk to Bristolcon.

Premier Inn Bristol City Centre

Llandoger Trow, King Street, Bristol, BS1 4ER, Tel. 0871 527 8158

This one IS a city centre hotel, being near the Centre and not too far from the city centre shops. About 10-12 minutes walk to Bristolcon. May have stag & hen parties in at the weekend. There is another Premier Inn in the city centre, on Haymarket, so watch out when booking. The Llandoger hotel is closer to the convention.

Around Millennium Square and Anchor Road (just off the area called The Centre) there are various budget hotels, but be warned – this is stag & hen central at the weekends.

Travelodge Bristol Central

Anchor Road, Bristol, BS1 5TT, Tel. 0871 984 6223

This is right on the edge of Bristol’s true city centre shopping/clubbing area - about 15-20 mins walk away from the BristolCon Hotel.

Ibis, Explore Lane

Explore Lane, Bristol, BS1 5TY, Tel. 0117 3199000

Literally round the corner from the Travelodge on Anchor Road, close to Millennium Square with its many restaurants.

Radisson Blu

Broad Quay, Bristol, BS1 4BY, Tel. 01179 349500

Slap bang on the Centre in bar, restaurant and theatre country. Very handy for Sainsburys and the finest burritos in Bristol. 10-12 minutes walk from Bristolcon.

The Bristol Hotel

Prince Street, Bristol, BS1 4QF, Tel 01179 230333

For many years this was Jury's Hotel on Prince Street – the one near the Shakespeare pub (for those of you that go to Bristolcon Fringe events) and close to the Youth Hostel. 8-10 mins from Bristolcon on foot.

Brooks Guest House

St Nicholas Street, Bristol, BS1 1UB, Tel. 01179 300066

Boutique Hotel, with luxury caravans in the roof garden! Known for it's green credentials and only a short walk from Bristol's famous St Nick's Market. 12-15 mins walk from Bristolcon.

BED & BREAKFASTS

Colosseum Bed & Breakfast,

Redcliffe Hill (not Redcliffe Street as Google Maps insists on showing it), Tel. 0117 987 0070.

B and B above a pub. For those of you who went to the first Bristolcon, it is the pub next to the Mercure Hotel where that first one was held. It is less than 5 mins walk from Bristolcon, and the pub serves a fine hangover-zapping fry-up.

Airbnb has a variety of places in Bristol on its website, which can be as cheap as £20 a night. You stay in the spare room in a private house.
